Who: Open to those coming on the excursion to the mountains
Where: Beyond the city walls, directly west from Peridexion
When: Thursday through Saturday
What: Exploration and potential danger
Warnings: None yet

Setting up camp in a meadow just past the foothills took most of Thursday, once everyone made it to the assigned plot of land to survey. The tents were large enough to stand in and furnished with three cots and three small wardrobes each, and three camp lanterns with magical and oil switches. Camp food was surprisingly tasty, and rather fancier than one might expect for what was in essence a government operation.

Friday was when the real work began: topical surveys, geological surveys, sounding for water and minerals with both magic and technological equipment, cataloging local animal and plant life, and scouting for edible resources. Every survey team consisted of two or three people, usually military paired with a civilian or scientist. A few people were set to sentry positions and dragons were largely set to flyovers and fly-arounds, looking for trouble. There was a break for lunch, only an hour, but not much more than that until sundown. Saturday was more of the same, except at a harder pace, trying to get everything done before camp was to be torn down Sunday.

The only local signs of potential trouble came Saturday, and they were just that: signs. A thin plume of smoke in the distance; a single small, wild dragon spotted lurking around the edge of the survey area who flew away immediately upon being spotted; a few simple traps found around the edges of camp in the morning. Otherwise, things at camp were calm.

((OOC: Been around long enough to have met Friday and want to stop by? Someone sent you around because you need some heavy work done? Just wondering what the giant dragon shelter is on the edge of town? Come on by!))

Who: Friday and YOU
Where: Friday's home near the edge of town
When: Any time, any day! She's home most often after sundown, however.
What: Paying a call on the resident mountain of dragon

A house designed for a large, solitary dragon was, by necessity, quite simply designed. The building was large and square, with most of the inside space taken up by an enormous nest. There were a few storage boxes built along the walls like benches, and the only other room was a freezer large enough to be a walk-in for a human. The doors were massive, naturally, but had smaller, human-sized doors set next to them, and even a little human-sized table and a couple chairs set into one corner that saw precious little use.

Friday still had high hopes of visitors, some day.

The strangest part about the place was that it was decorated. Unless you counted hordes, dragons - particularly the large ones - weren't exactly known for interior design. And, well, it wasn't pretty, exactly. But it'd been painted enthusiastically in bright, foresty greens and yellows inside and out, and the walls were adorned with a few pictures, medals, and even a mounted military rifle. Everything was extremely orderly, tidy, and dust-free, perhaps betraying a bit of the dragon behind the dimwitted gentle giant routine she liked to put on.

The dragon herself spent most of her time there sleeping, snoozing, and thinking. But a visitor was always worth attention.

Who: OPEN TO ALL!
Where: The landing platforms, the gates into Peridexion, and around the city
When: Sunday through Tuesday
What: Arrival and orientation
Warnings: None as of yet

Sunday was the last day of arrivals for the first wave of Peridexion’s new residents, and it was one of the busiest as people with last minute commitments finally made the trip, people finished scrounging together their belongings or funds for their portion of the journey, or people just tended to put things off and wound up on the very last flights, trains, or bus and van caravans. The landing platforms in particular were full of dragons coming and going, often lingering too long while passengers fussed and getting in the way of the next arrival, who circled above waiting for a place to land properly. The gates to the city, where the cheapest transportation-- long-distance buses, mostly-- was finally arriving from the last passenger train for the season, were also bustling.

Current residents, whether volunteers or city employees, waited to greet newcomers. People were shown to their homes, whether via internal city dragon transport or horse-drawn carts full of luggage.

Those already settled in from earlier flights and earlier trains had another plan in store, and from Sunday through Tuesday, all new residents were assigned an orientation meeting and tour of the city. Participation was not mandatory… but it was certainly strongly encouraged, both as a good way to get to know the neighbors and a good way to learn about their new home. Besides, lunch (or breakfast, or dinner, depending on the time of the orientation) was provided for free.
